Stephen Mossop

Head of Library Customer Services

Library Customer Services is responsible for all front-line customer interactions across the University’s 5 libraries. Each of the libraries offers a different study, research or collection environment, and this team of more than 60 is dedicated to ensuring that each of our customers receives a positive, rich and fulfilling library experience whether they visit us in person or online. To add a little context, the Main Library is open 24/7 and receives around 250,000 visits a year – each of those visitors has their own individual reasons for using the Library, and it is our job to ensure that they receive whatever assistance they need in order to fulfil them.

We operate in a regime of ‘supported self service’, which enables our customers to gain support, assistance and advice from our staff whilst at the same time learning the techniques necessary for them to become as fully self-sufficient as possible in terms of their research and information-discovery. Our aim is to facilitate our students to develop as independent learners and researchers – but sometimes they need a little help along the way....
