20050 The Role of the Personal Tutor This short session is designed as an introduction to the personal tutor role here at Exeter.

20056 ASPIRE Guidance Lunchtime Workshop The ASPIRE (Accrediting Staff Professionalism in Research-Led Education) scheme is designed to enable University staff who have a teaching role, or who support students’ learning, to gain both internal and external accreditation for their expertise and experience. We can offer you the opportunity to work towards and apply for an ASPIRE Fellowship at one of four levels: Associate; Fellow; Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow. Through gaining an ASPIRE Fellowship, you will also be able to gain automatically the comparable level of Higher Education Academy (HEA) recognition, since the ASPIRE scheme has been fully accredited by the HEA.

In this relaxed but informative workshop, we will provide an introduction to the scheme, and enable you to ask questions about its relevance to you and your role. We will explain how it relates to developmental opportunities such as peer review, College and team away days, learning and teaching workshops and other opportunities for peer dialogue. We’ll also give you some ideas for keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in research into teaching and learning in higher education. You should then be able to decide, in discussion with your Academic Lead or line manager, whether or not you wish to work towards accreditation. You will also be given an opportunity to ask questions, and further details of where you can get specific advice on your individual application, should you choose to make one.

20045 Videoconferencing - A Brief Introduction This session is designed to give academic staff a brief introduction to teaching via videoconference.  The workshop aims to improve your confidence by explaining the positive and negative aspects of teaching in this way.  There will be the opportunity for a brief discussion on lecturing via videoconference and the important points to remember when structuring your lecture.

The session is for academics that are already or will be teaching to students via videoconference internally or between campuses.  This course is also applicable to academics that will be having their lectures video recorded for publishing onto ELE.

20018 Programme Design and Approval This interactive session aims to help you make sure that your new or revised programme and module specifications are creatively and appropriately designed, so that they can both be formally accredited successfully and inspire your students to engage actively with your subject discipline at all levels of your curriculum.
20002 Doctoral Supervision This session is designed to inform and support academic and research colleagues who are new or relatively new to the role of doctoral supervisor. Drawing on recent research into supervisor roles and the postgraduate research student experience, it will cover a range of topics relevant to the role, as well as providing you with an opportunity to explore aspects of supervision with peers and with the Dean of the Research Faculty, Professor Robert Van-de-Noort.

20071 Enhancing Feedback to Students Feedback is an integral part of effective assessment practice, and critical to helping students progress in their learning – yet National Student Survey results show it to be one of the areas students are least satisfied with.  This new, bite-sized session introduces the key principles of meaningful feedback to students, whilst also offering creative, practice-based ideas for improvement, including use of learning technologies.

20064 Teaching International Groups This interactive session is designed to develop your skills in the teaching of international groups. Contributors to the event include Nel Boswood from Education Enhancement and Gareth Butt from INTO.
