New research student here at Exeter this year?
Doing a doctorate is a tall order and a serious accomplishment. There are many things to do on the way and it is easy to get blinkered on your imposing research problem. We work with the Colleges to offer special induction session for new doctoral students.
The inductions cover practical issues relating to the thesis, such as notions of 'originality', how to start and continue writing and, how to manage that critical supervisory relationship over the life-span of your research project. We also cover how to plan your skills training and development needs. These inductions sessions are a great introduction to your research career, so please ensure you are attending your College induction.
Also, as a new research student, it is important to browse the content on this site and see what else can help you get your doctorate. Get involved and get motivated!
You may also wish to look at our online 'Starting Your Doctorate' e-learning module which is designed to help you at this intial phase of your research career.
