Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register for courses?
Research students
You can register and find out more about all our courses and new events at:
http://as.exeter.ac.uk/support/development/researchstudents/erdp/
Early Career Research staff
At present research staff will not be able to book on-line due to the way that the system is set up. Please contact Gill Fairbrass for the ECR booking form g.m.fairbrass@exeter.ac.uk .
When I try to log in I get a message saying “You have been logged out of the graduate school online booking system. Your session may have expired – please login again”
There could be several reasons why the system does not recognise you:
Are you eligible?
The RDP is offered only to bona fide University of Exeter Postgraduate Research students (MPhil/PhD and professional doctorates) and Research Staff. If you are a Postgraduate Taught student you will not be able to register, i.e. MSc students are not eligible.
Students on a ‘3+1’ course will not be recognised while doing their first year (as officially you are then registered as an MSc student). When registry has been informed that you have successfully transferred, after your first year, your records will be updated and our data base will then accept your booking. Until then please contact Gill Fairbrass g.m.fairbrass@exeter.ac.uk for a booking form.
Are you entering your correct details?
Remember your username and password. This would have been issued to you when you registered at the University. Our booking system links directly to the students records database and will only recognise you if you use your University username and password. If you do not know your username or have forgotten your password please contact the IT Helpdesk Helpdesk@exeter.ac.uk
Have you recently registered for your degree or have you changed or updated any of your details recently?
If any of your details have changed or you have recently registered at the University it may be that these new details have not yet been updated on our system. Please wait for a day or two and then try again.
Is the training voluntary or compulsory?
We strongly encourage all research students to attend relevant training courses to enhance their skills profile and future employability, but we do not make this compulsory. However, some Colleges make elements of the RDP compulsory, so you must speak with your supervisor and/or College Director of Postgraduate Study about this to ensure that you meet your College’s requirements for your research degree.
Research staff are encouraged to self-select courses that they feel would be of most benefit to them.
Is it free?
All the workshops are free to attend. You do have to book and reserve a place. If you do not turn up for a workshop, without informing us before hand, your college may be charged.
Please refer to the Researcher Development Cancellation Policy if needed.
How much of my time will it take?
The RDP mainly consists of half-day and whole-day workshops, which are interactive and fun. Our workshops take place across the University on the Streatham, St Luke’s and Tremough Campuses.
Why do we offer the Researcher Development Programme?
We want to help you to identify and develop skills that not only help you with your research, but also improve your future employability; whether in academia or further afield. The world of work is becoming ever more competitive and by engaging in skills training that is highly transferable we hope that University of Exeter researchers will be highly confident and competent in their chosen field of employment.
