New Study Space: Amory Building
Over Summer 2012 a brand new study space will be created in the Amory Building.
Thanks to student input the space will have a mix of silent, quiet and group study facilities, and a total of c240 seats.
The new space will be open in time for Welcome Week 2012, right at the heart of the Amory Building.
Student-led Design
The layout for the new study space has been designed following close consultation with students, through surveys and focus groups, and a design concept is available to view.
The space will be roughly divided into three sections and get quieter as you go further in. There will be:
• a small ‘drop down zone’ entrance area (printers, quick access to library catalogue and email, noticeboards)
• a series of small group rooms
• an open quiet area
• an enclosed silent study space
Students and academic staff are represented on the Project Stakeholder Group and we are currently consulting over ideas for a name for the new space.

Background
The University is investing over £1 million to refurbish large sections of the Amory Building. This includes the new study centre (£500k), refurbished seminar rooms, an upgrade to the Parker Moot Room and new premises for the Law School (up to £700k).
The new premises for the Law School and the new study space are made possible because the Lasok Law Library will move into a completely refurbished and extended Main Library as part of the Forum Project.
By mid-September 2012, new and returning students will benefit from the new investments in Amory and the Forum, as well as additional quiet study space in The Sanctuary.
