The Devon and Exeter Institution Library is an independent subscription library founded in 1813 and housed in a Grade 2* listed building in Cathedral Close in the centre of Exeter.
Full membership is available gratis to University of Exeter staff and postgraduate students (application forms at the Issue Desk of the Main Library or at the Institution). University of Exeter undergraduates may use the library for reference on production of a valid University of Exeter ID card.
The library collections, c.34,000 volumes (included in the University Library's online catalogue), are particularly strong in South West studies, nineteenth century periodicals, biography, history and topography.
The library is open from 9.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
