Academic Libraries in the UK
Other academic libraries can be an invaluable source of information, however not all institutions allow visitors unless by pre-arrangement so it is a good idea to find out more before you go.
The SCONUL Access Scheme allow students and staff to visit and in some cases borrow from other institutions. Click here to find out more about the scheme and how to join.
To discover more about an institution before you visit or indeed to find which ones are available in your area there is an excellent interactive UK map here provided by the University of Wolverhampton. This shows the location of each institution and then gives links to a wide range of invaluable information on the right hand side. This includes a link to the library website where you should be able to access their online catalogue and other information.
Library Consortia
Across the UK many academic libraries have formed consortia to improve library and information services through a collaborative organisation.
M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries
The North West Academic Libraries (NoWAL)
Research Libraries UK (RLUK)
Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL)
Scottish Libraries Across the Internet (SLAINTE)
Wales Higher Education Libraries Forum (WHELF)
