Database Support

The University of Exeter maintains many applications all of which store their data in Relational Databases Management Systems (RDBMS). The University maintains in-house support and maintenance for a variety of Relational Databases including Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server and PostgreSQL which are managed by the DBA Team.

Oracle

Oracle RDBMS are typically used to store the data for the central business management information systems due to its robust nature the databases are typically fronted by vendor supplied applications and bespoke in-house developments.

The University of Exeter has a site license for the Oracle RDBMS database infrastructure and has a comprehensive management and administration skill set.

MySQL

The University of Exeter runs and manages MySQL databases which typically underpin the University Web developments along with other vendor supplied applications.

MySQL is an Open Source RDBMS solution which is widely used within the internet community.

SQL Server

SQL Server is the Microsoft branded RDBMS system which underpins several business management information systems at the University of Exeter due to its robust nature .

The University of Exeter runs a cluster of SQL Server databases and several stand alone instances which are typically fronted by vendor supplied applications and bespoke in-house developments.

PostgreSQL

The University of Exeter runs a small number of PostgreSQL RDBMS that store data for specific applications.
