Welcome to an Open Access Computer

There are well over 500 PCs in open-access computer rooms on the Exeter campuses. Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010, as well as updated versions of many other applications, are installed on all of these.
Enjoy!

Did your logon take more than 30 seconds? It should not have done so.

The most common reason for a slow logon are files stored in c:\users\xyz321 where xyz321 is your university account name.

You can tidy this up now by moving or deleting files from this area.

This includes files within folders within this area.  A particular common folder is the Downloads folder.

If you want to keep a file, move it to U:\ where it will be available to you both here in the student clusters and at home via the portal.

Once you have tidied up, logoff and log back in again. If despite doing this, your logon is still slow, PLEASE let us know. E-mail the helpdesk, or use the Self Service Portal to tell us where you are and if possible the serial number of the PC you are using. Tell us what message stays on the screen the longest. We can then investigate further.
