The ExeNet Project
The University of Exeter is currently undertaking a three year project investing £7m to upgrade our data network using cutting edge technology. The project is being delivered by Estate Development Services and Exeter IT.
The project aims to deliver a true 21st century network, able to meet the complex demands currently required by all network users, as well as being future-proofed to enable compliance with future technology.
The upgrade will provide faster network access and a wireless network across the Exeter Campuses together with a greatly improved e-learning capabilities and student experience. It will offer increased protection against network damage and provide maximum reliability for users.
Benefits for you
- More resilient high speed network
- More Wi-Fi provision across the campuses
- Faster download and upload capabilities
- Modern telephony system
- Better network security
- Better management control and supervision of site personnel
Project Timescales
The duration of the entire project is of 3 years divided into 3 phases (ExeNet Year 1, ExeNet Year 2 and ExeNet Year 3). There will be works carried out between January 2012 and summer 2014.
What's happening where
The ExeNet project means that in total over 27 academic and social buildings will benefit from an improved, reliable, technologically advanced network offering enhanced wired and wireless services. Please click on the following links for a map of the ExeNet project works on the St Lukes and Streatham Campus. There should be minimal disruption to everyday use of buildings and information will be distributed when works are due to commence in particular buildings and updates will also appear on this page.
ExeNet works completed so far
A network upgrade was completed in Geoffrey Pope and Henry Wellcome as part of the first phase of this project. Of the 6 buildings having a network upgrade in ExeNet Year 2 Kay Labs, Reed Mews, Harrison and Amory have had their upgrades completed and are now underway in Physics and Thornlea. ExeNet Year 2 works will be completed by the end of the summer 2013. Planning is also underway for the multiple buildings which will be upgraded in ExeNet Year 3 and more information will be available on this over the next few months.
