Other email clients (non-Outlook)
The University of Exeter email service is designed to work best with Microsoft Outlook 2007 and 2010, via our Microsoft Exchange server.
However, if you don't have or do not want to use Outlook 2007 or 2010, you can configure your own choice of mail client using the settings below.
This information is intended for people who wish to use a program designed to use the IMAP or POP style of working. The settings are intended for computers that are connected to the University network. If you are connected to an Internet Service Provider rather than the University network then it is quite likely that these settings will not work. The only supported ways of using your University e-mail account while connected to an ISP is either directly, via the MyExeter portal, or by VPN .
Please note that for all connections to the email servers it is mandatory that the secure access (SSL) is selected.
When setting up an IMAP or POP client you will need the following details:
| IMAP Server | imap.ex.ac.uk | |
|---|---|---|
| IMAP Folder Location/prefix | leave blank | |
| POP Server | pop.ex.ac.uk |
(do not check for new mail more frequently than every 10 minutes) |
| SMTP Server | mail.ex.ac.uk |
